Self Drive Packages & Planning for Your Iceland Vacation

At Nature Explorer we specialize in custom-made self drive itineraries to suit each client's needs and wishes for their holiday in Iceland.  You benefit from our local knowledge and expertise for a better vacation as we have a passion for nature and traveling around Iceland.  We design the itinerary sensibly to best fit the places of interest with your time frame, include a few tips of our own and give you detailed driving directions.

We book a rental car for you, activities on the way (such as snowmobiling, whale watching, horseback riding etc.), as well as accommodation, both in Reykjavík and in the countryside.  The accommodation can be anything from a cozy guesthouse or farm to a luxurious 4* hotel, although please note that in some areas there are only 3* country hotels. 

Upon your arrival at your hotel you'll receive a self drive package that includes:

• A map with your route marked and highlighted
• An Icelandic cell phone with all the necessary numbers, including our number which you can call 24/7. 
• A good, detailed Road Atlas of Iceland
• An information manual on Iceland that includes
  - Information on places of interest on your route
  - Meaning of nature names so you can better understand Icelandic road signs 

A custom itinerary is ISK 6.500 per day planned, paid in advance.  Of that fee ISK 2.500 is a deposit when booking the rental car and accommodation.  No planning fee is charged for days spent in Reykjavík before or after the tour, but we'd be happy to suggest some activities in Iceland's capital. 

Nature Explorer self-drive packages. 
These self drive packages take you to different areas of Iceland and on all of them you get amazing diversity in nature as well as seeing the most popular sights.  All tours start and end in Reykjavik so you don't have to worry about your flight schedule.  It's no problem to extend the tours if you wish to spend more time in a particular area.

Self Drive Package 1: Iceland´s Ring Road -
On this 9 day tour you drive along road one which outlines Iceland.  This is really the "ultimate tour" and a great choice if you have enough time, as you get to see so many different sights and visit interesting locations.  Highlights include Thingvellir National Park, Geysir, Gullfoss waterfall, Kjolur mountain track, Hveravellir geothermal area, Lake Myvatn, Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon and Skaftafell National Park.

Self Drive Package 2: Iceland's South Shore
A 5 day tour where you see the highlights of southern Iceland, perfect for those whoe have less time or are travelling in the winter.  On this tour you visit, among other sites; Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon, Skaftafell National Park, Seljarlandsfoss waterfall, Geysir, Thingvellir National Park and Gullfoss waterfall.

Self Drive Package 3: West Iceland & Westfjords
This 7 day tour takes you to the barren wilderness of the Westfjords, the amazing scenery of the Snaefellsnes peninsula and the more popular sights of south-west Iceland.  This is a great choice for bird-watchers.  Highlights include Isafjordur, Dynjandi waterfall, Latrabjarg cliff, Snaefellsjokull, Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls, Deildatunguhver geothermal spring, Thingvellir National Park, Geysir and Gullfoss waterfall.
