Thorsmork Nature Reserve is a wide valley named after Thor, the Viking God of Thunder. Surrounded by 3 glaciers, Myrdalsjokull, Eyjafjallajokull and Tindfjallajokull in the southern part of Iceland, it offers a great picturesque panorama and landscape. The rugged nature of forested valleys, steep mountains, clear creeks and wild rivers make Thorsmork one of the country´s most popular hiking grounds in summer. In winter it's even more magical - but then it's only accessible by modified Super-Jeeps - and therefore we are likely to have the whole area to ourselves. |

Itinerary for Thorsmork
We head out of Reykjavik, driving east along the south shore and take our time to enjoy the sights on route, for example Urridafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls. After you walk behind the waterfall Seljalandsfoss, we start driving the 4x4 track into Thorsmork. It's a real off-road adventure – with unbrigded rivers and streams to cross in our strong and reliable Super Jeeps. In winter, it's a much bigger adventure due to snow and ice.
We´ll take a photo stop by the glacier below the crater of Eyjafjallajokull where you can get real close to the falling glacier. It's the most picturesque glacier; the blue ice crumbling down the volcanic mountain.
When we arrive in Thorsmork we start by having lunch and your guide starts heating up the mountain cabin. Then you have plenty of options for short hikes in this fantastic winter wonderland - which you have all to yourselves.
For dinner your guide will prepare a traditional Icelandic feast; cured or smoked Icelandic salmon for starter, Icelandic lamb on the BBQ for main course and then skyrcake for desert. Choice of wine or beer. (Note: We will gladly change the menu according to your needs and wishes)
In the evening, we hope to see the Northern Ligths dancing across the sky if we are lucky.
The next morning, after breakfast you can choose whether you use the time until lunch to do a bit more hiking in this wonderful valley or if you want to do more sightseeing in our Super-Jeep. There are plenty of opportunities and options, one of them taking a hike into Stakkholtsgja canyon which has a secret hidden waterfall at the end. The canyon itself is also quite spectacular, with it's vertical walls.
The drive back will be just as spectacular as the way in and we will drop you off at your hotel in Reykjavik in time for dinner.
